Newton Stewart Walking Festival is run by a group of volunteers who share an enthusiasm and love for Galloway and the great walking experiences it offers.
Galloway is a wonderful location for walking and whether you enjoy the challenge of our true hill walking experiences or discovering our beautiful countryside and rugged coastline, there is sure to be something for everyone. Our festival is more than a walk in the hills, along the coast or amongst wonderful woodlands - we aim to provide you with a unique and complete WalkFest experience.
The festival was first held in 2003, with a modest week-end programme of eight walks in and around Newton Stewart.
By 2008 WalkFest had grown to a week-long festival consisting of over 30 events, including challenging hill routes, coastal walks and informative evening events.
The festival is still centred on the market town of Newton Stewart but we offer walks throughout the Galloway Hills and along the Solway Coast.
Several of the committee have been involved from the very start and the support and involvement of Galloway Mountain Rescue Team and Wigtownshire Ramblers has been a constant strength.
Enthusiasm and commitment has never been a problem - we love coming up with new routes and fresh ideas but our real reward is in welcoming back year after year walkers from all parts of the country and helping local people to enjoy the countryside on their doorstep.
We look forward to welcoming you in May.
You'll see many wonderful photos of our routes on this website. We acknowledge all the photographers, including R Peace, J Deans, S Vest, R Gemmell, M Kneeshaw and B Mitchell.
