This is one of the classic big walks in Galloway covering three ranges in one day. However, due to the distance, terrain and ascent of 5 separate tops over 700 metres only supremely fit walkers should consider choosing this challenge.
Starting at Forrest Lodge, the first Corbett to be climbed is Corserine (814 metres) followed by a descent down Meikle Craigtarson to Gala Lane. A climb alongside Pulskaig Burn leads to Loch Enoch.
Skirting its northern shores a steep climb up Redstone Rig sees the highest point and second Corbett of the day achieved, Merrick. At 843 metres it has some of the finest views in the Galloways and is always worth a coffee break.
The pattern of descent followed by ascent continues northerly over Kirriereoch (once considered a Corbett), Tarfessock and the last Corbett of the day, Shalloch on Minnoch (768 metres).
The final 4 kilometres are gently downhill to meet the minibus south of the Stinchar Bridge.
