The walk will be taken at a gentle pace and will include plenty of stops as we will be accompanied by a local geologist who will explain our surroundings.

Starting at the shore at Balcary Bay, the route climbs gradually with unfolding views of the Solway and Hestan Island before reaching the clifftops. Our guide will help us to understand the dramatic rock formations and teach us more about how man has used the valuable resources of the area.

A narrow and in places exposed path skirts the top of spectacular cliffs, with their nesting seabirds. The great views will be enjoyed at our cliff top lunch stop before we drop down to shore level at Rascarrel Bay.

The route then heads inland and through woodland to pick up a track past Loch Mackie before following farm tracks back to Balcary Bay.
