This is one of the most challenging routes in the WalkFest 2018 programme as it tackles every aspect of the Galloway Hills and only fit and experienced walkers should consider it.
The title says it all! This walk is only for those with good ‘hill legs’ and sufficient stamina to walk south-east across the grain of the Galloway Hills. Starting at Caldons and finishing at Cairnsmore House, we take in Lamachan, Drigmorn and Cairnsmore of Fleet, crossing places with tantalising names such as ‘Nick of the Corners Gale’, Fuffock Loch’, ‘Nick of Slannyvenach’, and an old favourite of Walkfest, ‘The Coo Lochans’. The absence of paths for much of the route adds to the Challenge and you will be glad to reach the summit of Cairnsmore of Fleet and the well-trodden path which we descend towards the pick-up.
